When this beautiful family reached out about their son’s first birthday, I was so excited. I photograph many lifestyle newborn sessions at home, so I was looking forward to a first birthday session! Mom wanted to celebrate their little boy turning one with family photos, and a little bit of a cake celebration. It was such a sweet idea and I love how many ideas she had. We wound up spending a wonderful time together in their Boston home for these first birthday portraits!
First Birthday Portraits at Home
To begin their lifestyle session, we started with some fun family photos. It was a great chance for mom and dad to cuddle their little guy. He was SO sweet the whole session. One of the reasons I adore lifestyle sessions is because I just think everyone is so much more relaxed the whole time at home. This little guy was comfortable in his space and it was very obvious. He was ready to climb up on mom’s lap and look out the window or get to sit on the kitchen counter. Their home is so beautiful too, it was a joy to photograph! Oh, and their wonderful cats. One was very camera shy but the other was all about it and loved my camera. Those little details are so special during lifestyle portraits. We can capture you (and your pets!) in the place that means the most to you – where your life happens. I think that’s definitely why I love in-home lifestyle sessions so much.
After the family portraits were done, Mom wanted some cute first birthday photos. But, the birthday boy was not having it! He did not like the hat mom wanted him to wear. It was really funny. He was excited to go into his high chair but really wasn’t sure about the cake when it came out, either. Either way, we captured some special memories for this little guy’s first birthday! He’s super adorable and I hope that they all love these photos for years to come.
