COVID-19 has forced a lot of changes on all of us. From how we work, live, eat and shop, it’s caused a lot of stress and anxiety. Yet, despite that, small business owners – photographers specifically – gathered across the nation to do our part. I was one of the photographers who were a part of the Front Steps Project. Together, we raised money for local charities and organizations across the nation.
Front Steps Project with Helena Goessens Photography
I first heard of the Front Steps Project through Cara Soulia, who started the project in Needham, MA. And then Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston MA reached out about collaborating in April. I realized I had found the perfect way to support my community in this unprecedented time. If you’re not familiar with the Front Steps Project, families made a donation to a charity (in our case, Brigham and Women’s Hospital). Then, in exchange, they received a socially distanced family portrait session on the front steps of their home.
Some sessions were serious. A few were funny – with props and the kids goofing off. But, all of them were full of heart and love for our community. When I began photographing the sessions, I had a goal of $5,000. Thanks to everyone who participated, we donated over $5, 500 to Brigham and Women’s Hospital!
Because of that donation, the frontline nurses, doctors, and other essential workers at the hospital were able to purchase much needed PPE for their staff. Being able to contribute to such an important cause has given me and my heart a purpose during this confusing and stressful time.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
My heart is full of gratitude. I just want to thank you all, from the bottom of my heart, for your generosity, solidarity and beautiful smiles! Thank you for opening your front doors for me and offering me the opportunity to photograph you and your beautiful families. Thank you for helping me reach the goal of $5,000 to help Brigham and Women’s hospital in their battle against coronavirus by helping local doctors, nurses and healthcare workers to purchase medical supplies. And of course, thank you all for the love and support and for believing in me and THANK YOU doctors and medical frontliners for saving our lives. You are all our biggest heroes.
