Newborn Sessions • FAQ’S
1. What is Lifestyle Newborn Photography?
A newborn lifestyle session captures the adorable moments and intense emotions of this special time at the comfort of your home. It take place in your environment, where you are most comfortable and relaxed, and so is your baby.
During a newborn lifestyle session, I will help you with some flattering poses, but mostly I will let the session unfold naturally. My favorite images evoke emotion or bring you back to a special place and time where you felt love, happiness, and joy. Only real life can achieve true emotion.
During a lifestyle newborn photo session, I capture photos of the entire family, siblings, each parent individually with baby, and baby by herself. The goal is to capture those tiny newborn details, along with the immense love and joy your family has surrounding this newest family member.

2. Why hiring a professional newborn photographer?
While it’s ultimately up to you to decide how you’d like your baby’s first few weeks of life documented, I believe hiring an experienced professional is the ideal way to get wonderful results. Believe it or not, my job goes far beyond snapping the shutter. Photography is an art; one that requires experience and practice to achieve worthy results. I work one-on-one with each of my clients to deliver images with an artistic style to portrait what’s most meaningful to your family.
Additionally, I have available a large selection of props and outfits you may choose from, and am willing to literally sweat for hours to get baby happy in a heated room! Yes, truly – that’s what it takes sometimes to get the perfect shot! At the end of all this hard work, you are the one who ultimately gets to enjoy the final product. Whether you choose to use the images for newborn announcements, home decor, or simply a few prints on your bedside table, you will be so happy you hired a professional. I promise!
3. When is the best time for booking my newborn session?
I recommend booking your session at least 2-4 months
in advance of your due date! As soon as baby comes,
it’s non-stop hard work. Coordinating a photo session seems like the last thing on your list of priorities. This is why I recommend booking your session in advance to make sure everything is lined up ahead of time and you don’t have to worry!
Newborns are best photographed under 2 weeks of age; the ideal timing before 9 days.
4. What if my baby doesn’t sleep?
The beauty of lifestyle newborn photography is that it does not matter if your baby is asleep or awake. Not all newborns are sleepy, some just want to see what is going on. However, the entire time they are comfortable and safe in mom or dad’s arms. Whether your baby is asleep or awake and looking around, your gallery will be full of beautiful images.
5. How long do newborn sessions take?
At just a few days old, a regular feeding, sleeping, and potty schedule is out of the question. I understand this, and as a result require a minimum of 3 hours blocked out for lifestyle sessions. Although I have my bag of tricks to make the process efficient and fun for everyone, it really all comes down to how baby is feeling, and of course, parents are welcomed and encouraged to participate in the session.
6. What should we wear?
For newborn sessions that include family and siblings, I recommend that all family members wear a neutral color palette for a timeless look. You don’t need to match exactly, though. Coordinating neutrals are best!
I recommend selecting softer, lighter tones and more muted shades. By avoiding ultra-bright, bold colors or black will help bring all the attention to your baby and your faces and let the eye focus on the way you feel about each other.
Soft pink and muted blues, mixed with sophisticated light neutrals like heather gray, creams, and white. That softer color palette fits beautifully into almost all environments and can easily be paired in so many different ways.
