Family Sessions Frequently Asked Questions

Family Sessions • FAQ’S

1. What is your style?

My style? It’s natural and relaxed! I like to enhance what’s naturally there rather than trying to create something that isn’t you. I’ve been taking child and family portraits since 2012 and love every minute of it. My job is to capture the special bonds and incredible love between your family members and bring that out on camera. Your portraits should be a positive reflection of who you are.

I use mostly natural light on-location settings to bring you glowing skin tones and radiant imagery. As a mama myself, I know what it’s like to see your little ones grow up fast! I specialize in photographs that truly capture moments in time that you can cherish a life long.

2. What is included in the session fee?

Your session includes your choice of 20 high-resolution digital files and a print release, so you can print images for personal use as much as you like. Every photo will be converted to black and white in both high- and low-resolution. Additional digital files may be added to your order if you’d like.

3. How long will be our session be?

Typically sessions last between 1 to 3 hours depending on the type of session you book (maternity sessions last 30 minutes, family and senior sessions last approximately one hour and newborn sessions last from 2 to 3 hours).

4. Where will my portrait session take place?

Family sessions take place on location, in a special spot where your family can be comfortable and have fun—think a favorite park, field, backyard, beach, or anywhere you just love. Add in some favorite clothes, and maybe even your family pet!

Tell me your ideas, I am always open to new locations, and if you need ideas, ask me! Please book your session as early as possible to allow for space availability.

5. How soon after our session will our images be available?

Sneak Peeks will be ready typically the next day. I will post 2-3 images from your shoot on my social media within 48 hours of our session. A password-protected online gallery of your images will be available approximately 2 weeks after your session. You will then be able to view your private online gallery and select your favorites images.

6. I want to keep my images private.

All clients sign an optional model release before the session. If you would prefer to keep your images private, you may indicate your request at that time. For clients who choose to decline the model release, I absolutely respect your decision and will keep your images under lock and key.

7. Am I allowed to print the photos that you deliver to me?

100% yes, with no size or print restrictions either, no watermarks and no hassle. A print release will be delivered with your images, but please choose carefully your print lab! I do not recommend printing your images at Shutterfly, Target, Walmart, CVS, or Costco. These labs are not designed to handle printing professional photography.

8. What happens if it rains on the day of my portrait session?

In case of bad weather, I will contact you shortly before your session (usually in the morning) to plan accordingly. In the event of rain during your session, we will reschedule for a different day.

9. What should we wear?

Wondering what to wear at your family session? I am so honored to help you create memories you’ll cherish for a lifetime. I have created this blog post to help you get the most out of your photos and to feel more than ready and prepared for your session.

Before your session I will send you a complete guide to help you prepare for your session so you and your fammily can feel comfortable and relaxed on-camera!

10. Do you offer mini sessions?

There are only two types of mini sessions I offer. The first is a mini maternity session available only when you book a newborn session at the same time. The second is Holiday Mini Sessions, which are offered in November. Newsletter subscribers get first dibs on Holiday Mini sessions, and they often sell out in July. Sign up for my Newsletter for first access to session times here.

11. What type of payment do you accept?

At this moment the only type of payment is credit card. Processing fee and sales tax apply.

12. I am ready to book. How do I book my session?

I can’t wait to work with you! Please send me a mail here or click the button below and we will set up a date and time for your session. In order to reserve your day, a non-refundable 50% session fee deposit and a signed contract are required. I’ll work with your schedule to find a perfect day and time for the session!

For your convenience, you can sign the photography agreement and submit your payment electronically. The remaining balance and any additional print orders are due at our gallery review appointment.
